Why add this ancient Gold Koson Stater to your collection?

The obverse design of this gold Stater bears a stunning resemblance to an earlier silver Denarius issued by Brutus in 54 BC. This Thracian or Scythian Koson gold Stater, struck sometime after 54 BC, has two different origination theories. Two distinct forms of this coin have been found, one with a monogram and one without, with subtle differences in metallic purity and content. Several historians believe that the Stater that carries a monogram was issued by Imperatorial Brutus, the leader of Julius Caesar's assassin plot.

Imagery remarkably similar to earlier Silver Denarius

The obverse portrays three figures in ancient Roman dress advancing left: a parade of two lictors carrying fasces over their shoulders, and a Roman Consul between, preceded by a monogram which is possibly the mark of Brutus; "KOSON" in exergue. The reverse features an eagle balanced on a scepter, holding a wreath in its talons. Both images are framed within a beaded border.

This ancient Gold Stater, struck after 54 BC, is graded Mint State, with comparable Sheldon Scale equivalent of 60-62, and additional grading of 5/5 for strike and 4/5 for surface characteristics by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC).
