Originally struck from 1916 to 1930, the Standing Liberty quarter quickly became one of the most popular quarters ever struck from the United State's Mint. This year, collectors are eagerly awaiting the upcoming release of the Standing Liberty 2016 Centennial Gold Coin.
ModernCoinMart (MCM) is now carrying this remarkable commemorative in its original Mint packaging, as well as coins graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) and the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). We also have this coin available with many exclusive labels, including a 100th Anniversary label honoring the design, and a special facsimile label honoring the designer!
The first coin in the series, the Gold Mercury Dime Centennial, was sold out from the U.S. Mint in under an hour of its release! Since then, demand has been high and stock has been low. Don’t miss out on your opportunity to purchase the next coin in the series, the Gold Standing Liberty Quarter Centennial!
As the second release in the three-coin 2016 Gold Centennial Coin series, the U.S. Mint is honoring Hermon A. MacNeil’s Standing Liberty Quarter! This quarter has been struck using ¼ oz. of .9999 (24-karat) fine gold. It has a slightly smaller diameter than the original quarter at 22 mm, and has a thickness of 1.63 mm. Dated “2016,” this coin is a legal tender of the United States for 25 cents. Unlike the Gold Mercury Dime Centennial that had 125,000 issues, only 100,000 Gold Standing Liberty Quarters Centennials have been struck.
The Standing Liberty Design used on this gold centennial is the original design created by Hermon A. Macneil for its first 1916 issue. It does not observe any of its later revisions. Like the Mercury Dime centennial, it denotes its gold content with an inscription, “AU 24K ¼ oz.” A specimen finish has been used, giving the gold a matte finish very similar to the business strike of the original 1916 quarters.
