Proud collectors of the popular 5 oz. America the Beautiful Quarter series will be intrigued to know that experts of third-party grading service, Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) have discovered a major Mint error!
Detailed in a recent press release published by NGC, the finding of five 2014 Great Smoky Mountains 5 oz. Specimen coins missing their “P” Mint mark has sparked collector interest around the country.
In a recent submission of Specimen issue coins made by ModernCoinMart, these astonishing coins were discovered; this is the first time a Mint error has been discovered within the America the Beautiful series!
According to NGC Finalizer and Mint error specialist, David J. Camire, the error likely occurred at the U.S. Mint when Mint State coins (which do not include a Mint mark) were struck and mixed with Specimen issue coins waiting to be vapor-blasted.
After receiving the vapor-blasted matte finish, the coins that were originally intended to be Mint State issues were packaged and shipped out alongside Specimen issues. Currently, there are five known releases that bare this error.
ModernCoinMart is excited to soon offer four of the five discovered 2014-P Great Smoky Mountains 5 oz. Silver America the Beautiful Specimen Coin Mint Error No 'P' Mint Mark coins to customers.

The discovery of a new, major Mint error is quite exciting. It’s possible that more specimens of the 2014-P no mint mark Great Smoky Mountains 5 oz. silver quarter may be found in the future. However, very few are known at this point which makes it an exceptionally appealing coin.
