National Historic Park, War in the Pacific America the Beautiful 5 oz. Coin Design
The reverse design of this issue features the image of two American soldiers going ashore at Asan Bay, Guam. Reverse inscriptions include: WAR IN THE PACIFIC, GUAM, 2019 and E PLURIBUS UNUM. The image was designed by Joel Iskowtz and sculpted by Michael Gaudioso.
The obverse image used on the America the Beautiful series is the timeless portrait of the First President of the United States, George Washington. The image was designed in 1932 by John Flanagan for the circulating U.S quarter dollar. Obverse inscriptions include: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and QUARTER DOLLAR.
This design of Mr. Washington is based on the marble bust sculpted by French artist Jean-Antoine Houdin. The famous bust is now in the permanent collection of the President’s home and historic site in Mt. Vernon, Virginia.
