A golden legacy: China Gold Panda Coins

First available in 1/10 oz.,¼ oz., ½ oz. and 1 oz. releases, the China Gold Panda has endured many years of design changes and alterations. Some notable years for the series were 1986, when Gold Panda proof sets were first introduced, 1993-1994 when 1 oz. Gold Panda coins were bimetallic and 1995-1996 when only the 1 oz. coins were struck. Additionally, the 2016 gold panda coins made headlines as they were the first panda coins issued that were measured in grams rather than ounces. Despite the many changes to the series, each coin is still struck utilizing .999 fine gold.

2017 Gold Panda Design

Backed by the Chinese government, each 2017 Gold China Panda coin features the classic obverse imagery of the famous China landmark, the Beijing Temple of Heaven. Around the temple’s golden portrait is the Chinese inscription, “People’s Republic of China” and the year, 2017.

With the China Panda’s reverse design changing almost every year, each annual release is something many collectors look forward to. In contrast with previous years, this year’s design shows a playful young panda enjoying a bamboo snack. The sitting 2017 panda’s detail is highlighted in .999 fine gold with shining devices.

Now available in 1-gram, 3-gram, 8-gram, 15-gram and 30-gram sizes, each coin promises to be an excellent addition to your precious collection. With mintage numbers for the 2017 Gold China Panda 30-gram coin raised from 600,000 to 700,000, the Chinese Mint is expecting the official release of the 2017 Gold China Panda coins to be a great success.
