Description

Why add the 1904-O Morgan Silver Dollar Brilliant Uncirculated condition to your collection?

This 1904-O Morgan Silver Dollar is a stunning Brilliant Uncirculated example. This is the final Morgan Silver Dollar issue struck at the U.S. Mint in New Orleans. It has a mintage of 3,720,000 coins. The series was struck on 90% silver, 10% copper planchets with .7734 oz. of actual silver weight. This issue was considered a major rarity for the decades leading up to the GSA sales of the 1960s.

Morgan’s Iconic Silver Dollar

The series was designed by George T. Morgan as his first assignment for the US Mint. Later in his career he became the Chief Engraver. The obverse of the coin features Lady Liberty, as she was modeled by Miss Anna Willess Williams, a school teacher from Philadelphia. Liberty is shown wearing a coronet with the inscription “Liberty” with a Phrygian cap on her head. The reverse heraldic eagle was not readily accepted by the public due to a more diminutive build. Morgans were sometimes called “Buzzard Dollars” because of the reverse.

New Orleans Brilliant Uncirculated specimen

Examples in this condition are high-quality coins with few distractions. They are well-struck with full details and excellent mint luster. The New Orleans branch of the U.S. Mint is widely known to have produced poorly struck coinage across all denominations. BU New Orleans coins in any denomination are in demand with experienced collectors.
