Canada’s Maple Leaf Coins as You’ve Never Seen Them Before!
Since 1979, the Royal Canadian Mint’s beautiful Maple Leaf coins have grown steadily in popularity with collectors and buyers of high-purity bullion coins. With reverses featuring the iconic sugar maple leaf that has symbolized Canada and Canadians for nearly 300 years, Gold Maple Leafs were introduced in 1979 and Silver Maple Leafs in 1988. Struck in .999 fineness until 1982, the purity has been .9999% pure gold and silver ever since.
A New Kind of Maple Leaf: Super Incuse
The Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) made history in 2018, striking the iconic Silver and Gold Maple Leaf series with incuse designs. The relief projecting inwards rather than outwards provided an extremely compelling effect that spurred many other major mints to strike modern incuse products of their own. As impressive as that was, the RCM was only scratching the surface of the capabilities. For 2021, they are debuting these world’s first-ever Super Incuse Gold and Silver Maples, where the incuse strike sinks down 1.5mm into the surface of the coin, creating a steep, canyon-like difference in depth they are calling “Super Incuse.” That is 5 times deeper than the incuse strike seen on previous incuse maples. This is so deep that even after the RCM switched to thicker planchets, the strike still nearly touches the center of the coin, stopping just shy at 40% of the coins total thickness.
Highlighting the Super Incuse Strike is a Reverse Proof Finish
These coins have been struck with a reverse proof finish, carrying all of the benefits of a traditional proof coin – multiple strikes, clean, sharp designs, frosted and polished finishes – yet with a distinct twist. Instead of the typical polished fields and frosted devices, these effects are literally reversed, with the backgrounds frosted and the elements polished. The effect is always stunning, but particularly when combined with this super incuse strike. Further enhancing the design, Mint technicians have used a softer frosting than their typical harsher, aluminum oxide effect, combining it with the brilliant polish to create an exquisite effect that really highlights the technology used.
25th Anniversary Privy Mark
2021 marks the 25th anniversary of the proclamation designating the Maple Tree as the National Emblem of Canada. This special collectible features a special privy mark in honor that anniversary.
The Maple Leaf: A High Purity Standard
The Canadian Maple Leaf is known around the world for its high purity, whether struck in gold or silver. That tradition continues with these first-ever Super Incuse Maple Leafs—and then some! You can secure one of these coins struck in two ounces of high-purity 99.99% pure gold, one ounce of 99.99% fine silver or a two-piece set with both coins.
Flawless Proof-70 Ultra Cameo Available Certified as First Day of Issue or First Day of Production
These high-purity, first-ever Gold and Silver Super Incuse Gold and Silver Maple Leafs are available graded by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC)—one of the world’s leading third-party grading services—as perfect Proof-70 (PF70) Ultra Cameo (UC) condition. Coins are graded on a scale of 1-70, making these coins absolutely flawless—even under magnification!
In addition, a limited number of coins have been certified by NGC as First Day of Issue (FDI), meaning they were secured from the mint and received for grading within 24 hours of the mintage’s release. Even fewer coins have been certified as First Day of Production (FDP), a designation that requires the mint to certify the coins as being struck during the very first day of the mintage’s production.
These coins are not only the best of the best, they’re also the first of the best.
Custom Incuse Labels
These commemorative coins will be slabbed by NGC with a brand-new maple label sharing the super incuse effects of the coin. The paper label is debossed to create the incused effect, with red foil inlay to for a beautiful effect.
