New uncirculated Silver Eagles are released by the United States Mint each year and are perfect for collecting or stacking bullion!
What Is an Uncirculated American Silver Eagle?
While some may call a brand new, legal tender Silver Eagle that's never entered circulation Mint State (MS) and others Uncirculated (UNC), the terms are interchangeable; both describe a coin direct from the Mint that shows no trace of everyday wear and tear. The United States Mint annually releases bullion Silver Eagles which are generally described as Brilliant Uncirculated coins as well as Burnished Silver Eagles, called uncirculated coins, that are struck with at the West Point and feature a mint mark.
Judged on a 70 point scale, flawless and near-perfect coins encapsulated and graded by trusted third party grading companies Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) or Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) tend to be highly sought-after.
At the top of the heap, an MS70 grade designates a state of absolute perfection that is sure to be the crowning glory of any assortment. But, if a perfect Silver Eagle is out of your reach, many experts consider an MS69 coin to be a smart choice - and can be a great value.
Bullion Uncirculated Silver Eagle coins can be purchased in both certified graded and bulk raw options. Bullion uncirculated coins are available to purchase individually, in tubes (20 Coins), or even in Monster Boxes (containing 500 coins).
What Are Enhanced Uncirculated American Silver Eagles?
Enhanced Uncirculated coins are a type of strike that features enhancements for an uncirculated coin giving some features of the coin a classic uncirculated finish while others a heavy frosted finish.
The 2013 "Enhanced Uncirculated" American Silver Eagle was the first U.S. coin of its kind making it one of the most unique and sharpest designs on any U.S. coin. Produced at the West Point Mint, the mint used a highly innovative and technologically advanced process that utilized three brilliant contrasting layers:
- a background field with a "soft frost" satin finish
- a "heavy frost" satin field with the main details
- A mirror-like “proof” finish with the remaining coin details

The Beginning of the Uncirculated American Silver Eagle
The American Eagle Coin Program was launched by the U.S. Mint in 1986 with gold and silver bullion coins for that expanded to proof and uncirculated versions for collecting, meaning they were not minted for general circulation. Since 1986, each year has released an American Silver Eagle coin, All Of Which have a reeded edge and have one troy ounce of 99.9% pure silver.
The Obverse Design of the Uncirculated American Silver Eagle
The Obverse Design of the American Eagle Silver Coins uses the “Walking Liberty” by sculptor Adolph A. Weinman’s 1916 half dollar. Lady Liberty walks in profile, draped in the folds of the American flag while her right arm extends with her left arm carrying laurel and oak branches.
The year 2021 marked the 35th anniversary of the U.S. Mint’s American Eagle Coin Program. To pay tribute to Weinman, this anniversary edition features a refreshed design that allows for original details that were previously not possible due to the limited technology at the time of the first coins. The Type-2 version of the design, introduced in mid-2021 features Weinman’s artist initials, “AW” on the obverse.
The Reverse Design of the Uncirculated American Silver Eagle
Designed by John Mercanti to symbolize strength and endurance, from 1986 to 2021, The Silver Eagle Reverse Design depicted a heraldic eagle with a shield, grasping an olive branch and arrows. The original design is commonly referred to as the Heraldic Eagle or Type-1 design. Since mid-2021, the coins reverse feature a new design showing an eagle carrying an oak branch, commonly referred to as the “Eagle Landing” design.
