Why purchase this sealed box of 2,500 GEM Brilliant Uncirculated 2017 Lincoln Cents?
The Lincoln Cent was introduced by the U.S. Mint more than a century ago, in 1909, to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth. At the time, design of the coin was groundbreaking for the Mint, as the first series to depict the likeness of an actual person rather than a fictional personification of an ideal. The obverse portrait created by Victor David Brenner has remained unchanged for the lifetime of the series, notably the longest running design in of all of circulating U.S. coinage history.
The Lincoln Cent reverse has been modified several times; the initial wheat grain design was replaced with a facade of the Lincoln Memorial to mark the series' 50th year of issue and the 150th Anniversary of Lincoln's birth. Fifty years later in 2009, four single year issue designs were released with imagery highlighting distinct phases of Lincoln's life. The current, Shield Cent reverse was introduced in 2010, designed by Lyndall Bass and engraved by Joseph Menna, who is the U.S. Mint's Chief Engraver as of February 2019.
