Why add this brilliant uncirculated 1 oz. gold Royal Mint Great Engravers Series Una and the Lion bar to your collection?
The Royal Mint has launched their Great Engravers bullion bar series with a modernized interpretation of the classic 1839 Una and the Lion design, which is heralded as one of the greatest coinage images to be created by the Mint's Chief Engraver William Wyon. Minted upon a five pound coin issued to commemorate the beginning of Queen Victoria's reign, the design was based upon the words of Edmund Spenser in his epic poem "The Faerie Queene," a timeless tale of beauty, honor and strength published in 1590.
Magnificent Rendition of Una and the Lion
Obverse: Centered on the obverse is the inscription "1 OZ 999.9 FINE GOLD," upon a delicately etched filigree style background. Above, "THE ROYAL MINT" is inscribed beside the Mint's distinctive shield and crown logo, with the bar's unique serial number below.
Reverse: The reverse features a breathtaking representation of Una and the Lion, which depicts the poised princess grasping the monarch's orb and scepter, with her protective lion companion standing at her side. A gentle breeze adds movement to the scene, as woman and beast cast their gazes to the future. The patterned background resembles the graphics on the obverse. The design is the work of Royal Mint sculptor Jody Clark, creator of the ten heraldic images of the Queen's Beasts series.
