Why add the Romano-Gallic Empire, Billon Double Denarius of Postumus to your collection?

This Billon Romano-Gallic Empire Double Denarius of Postumus was graded Choice Extremely Fine by the experts on ancient coins at the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). One of the characteristics of the Roman Empire in the later period was inflation. The primary silver coin used in trade was the Denarius. Over time the silver content of the coin was debased and the new "Double Denarius" was needed to restore faith in the money. True to form the silver content was reduced and the silver in the coin was alloyed with copper, lead and other cheaper metals. The term "Billon" refers to a Roman coin that has either low silver content or is merely silver "washed."

Postumus, Ruler of the Gallic Empire

Postumus was a Roman military leader who was born in the Roman Province of Gaul, present day France. The seat of Postumus' power was in the provinces of Gaul, Germania, Britannia and Hispania, (present day France, Germany, Britain and Spain) which comprised the "Gallic Empire." He ruled for a decade before his own troops murdered him. Postumus is featured on the obverse of this coin.
