Why purchase this Roman Republic Silver Denarius?

This Roman Republic Silver Denarius, struck at the Rome Mint in 106 BC, is designated "Serratus," featuring a scalloped edge. Historians have several theories for the purpose of the edge, one being that it may be purely decorative, another is to confirm the coin's purity by exposing the core. Issued by moneyer C.Sulpicius C.f. Galba, this ancient coin has been authenticated by Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) as part of the private collection of the late Archer M. Huntington, notable benefactor of the American Numismatic Society in the early 20th century.

Intriguing Denarius Imagery

A scene from the Aeneid is depicted on the obverse, featuring two soldiers swearing oath over a sow which has identified the place to found the city of Lavinium. The obverse illustrates the jugate and laureate heads of Dei Penates, the ancestral gods of the Roman people who originated in Lavinium.

Choice Very Fine Silver Denarius

This Silver Serratus Denarius issued by C.Sulpicius C.f. Galba exhibits nearly complete design details with evidence of wear on the highest points, earning the grade of Ch. VF, Choice Very Fine (Sheldon Scale 30-35) from the NGC's ancient coin grading division, NGC Ancients. The coin struck in 106 BC also received the ancient coin grading of 3/5 for strike quality and 5/5 for surface condition. The coin is sealed in an NGC protective holder, its label indicating its pedigree from the Huntington Collection.
