Why add this posthumous issue Silver Denarius of Faustina Sr. from the Golden Age Hoard to your collection?
This Silver Denarius of Faustina Sr. was issued posthumously by her husband Emperor Antoninus Pius after A.D. 141, during the Golden Age of Rome. The Emperor not only issued coinage to commemorate her memory, he had her deified, placed a statue of her in the Temple of Venus in Rome, and dedicated a temple in her honor.
Beautiful commemorative imagery
The obverse features the portrait of Faustina Sr. facing right. Posthumous issues usually depict the Empress' hair styled in a low bun, or covered with a veil, surrounded by an inscription that begins with "DIVA."
Reverse imagery will feature a variety of veiled goddesses, and/or a peacock. The peacock, associated with Juno, the Roman goddess of marriage and childbirth, is also a symbol of the Apotheosis, the glorification of a subject to a divine level.
