The coin shown here depicts the wife of Marcus Aurelius, Empress Faustina the Younger, also commonly referred to as Faustina Minor/Junior. This coin is a bronze sestertius, and it was equal to one fourth of a silver denarius. It was struck between AD 147 and AD 150, approximately.

Faustina the Younger, Choice Patina

A lovely Faustina the Younger is depicted on the obverse. She's facing the right in this portrait. A circle of inscriptions form the border of the design. A beautiful and very choice deep green patina blankets this gorgeous coin. By most accounts, Faustina Minor was very well-liked during her time.

More inscriptions can be found on the reverse along with a the standing figure of the Roman goddess Concordia. She is holding a cornucopia, a symbol of prosperity and plenty.
