Why add this Roman Empire Bronze Sestertius of Faustina Sr. to your collection?

Faustina Sr., also known as Faustina the Elder, or Faustina Major, was the beloved wife of Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius, serving as Augusta from A.D. 138-141. Following her death, the Emperor commissioned a vast amount of coinage to be struck in her honor. This posthumous issue Sestertius was struck from bronze after 141 A.D. The Sestertius, valued at 1/100 of an Aureus, was the largest bronze denomination circulated in the Empire from about 23 B.C. until the late third century A.D.

Beautiful design struck in memory of Faustina Sr.

The coin's obverse depicts the draped, right facing image of Faustina, surrounded by a legend declaring her posthumous divine status "DIVA FAVSTINA."

The reverse features the goddess Vesta, standing, with an upraised torch in her right hand, accompanied by the inscriptions "AVGVSTA" and "SC." In ancient Roman religion and mythology, Vesta is identified as the virgin goddess of the hearth, home, and family, as well as a guardian of the Roman people.
