Iconic Design of the South African Krugerrand

Obverse: The likeness of Paul Kruger, President of the South African Republic from 1883-1900 is centered on the obverse, in a left facing pose. The image is encircled by a crenelated border, with the inscriptions "SUID-AFRIKA" and "SOUTH AFRICA" sweeping above.

Reverse: Coert Steynberg's leaping springbok antelope design is featured on the reverse, as originally struck on the five shilling coin of South Africa from 1948-1964. Inscriptions include "KRUGERRAND," "2021" and "FYNSILWER 1 OZ FINE SILVER R1." Mr. Steynberg received multiple awards for his sculptural work in stone, marble, bronze, copper and wood.
