Classic Native American Design by James Earle Fraser
Obverse: The obverse of each coin features a composite portrait of an aging Native American man. He has long hair that falls over his shoulder, and he wears feathers on his head. Inscriptions on this face include the date, "2022," "LIBERTY," and an "F" for designer James Earle Fraser.
Reverse: On the reverse is an American bison in left-side profile. Fraser captured the imposing size of the creature by making full use of the horizontal diameter. Arching over the image is the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," while the coin's face value, "$50," and metal content, "1 OZ. .9999 FINE GOLD," are inscribed below. Also on this face are the two statutory mottoes, "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM." James Earle Fraser was a sculptor who studied in both the United States and France. His work is prominently displayed at numerous important sites in Washington, DC.
