Why buy this Roll of 20 Austria 2019 1 oz Silver Leopold Coins?

The Austrian Mint is steeped in history like no other government mint on the planet. Its origins date back to 1191, when Austria's Duke Leopold V and England's King Richard "The Lionhart" had a dispute as the city of Acre was being captured. The following year, the Duke took King Richard prisoner as the latter was on his way back from the Holy Land. Leopold demanded millions of ounces of silver as ransom for Richard's release. The English raised the money through taxes, which gave way to the legend of Robin Hood, while Leopold used the money to found the Vienna Mint and Wiener Neustadt. These Silver Leopolds are the first of three issues to commemorate the series of events on the the 825th anniversary of the foundation of the Vienna Mint. Each piece was struck from one ounce of .999 fine silver. The coins are part of a limited mintage of 100,000 pieces and will arrive in GEM Brilliant Uncirculated condition.

Powerful Duke Leopold Design

A modern take on the official seal of Duke Leopold V serves as the obverse design. Leopold is depicted on horseback wearing armor and carrying his banner. The name of the issuing country, "REPUBLIK OSTERREICH," arches over him, while other inscriptions offer the coin's face value in Austria, "1,50 EURO," its weight, "1 UNZE FEINSILBER," and the date, "2019."

The reverse features a stunning image of Duke Leopold V wearing fine plate and mail armor. He also wears a surcoat on which is his personal coat of arms. Banners flap behind him as he wields his sword with both hands. "1194," the year in which he founded the Austrian Mint, is inscribed in the upper left.
