Why add this Gold Mexico 5 Pesos to your collection
Mexico issued a Gold 5 Peso coin from 1905-1955, and your coin may come from any of those years. The coins were all struck at the Mexico City Mint and bear that Mint's "M" Mint mark. All 5 Peso coins were struck from .900 fine gold and weigh .1205 Troy oz.
Patriotic Mexican Design
Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a Catholic priest and national hero for his role in the Mexican War for Independence, is shown in left-side portrait on the obverse. He bears a serious look and is balding. Rim inscriptions include the Mint mark to the lower right of the truncation, "CINCO PESOS" to the let, and the year of issue to the right.
The reverse features the Mexican coat of arms. The scene features an eagle, the national bird, with its wings spread as it grasps a snake in its beak. The eagle is perched upon a cactus. The symbolism is powerful in Mexican native religions, but has been Westernized to symbolize good conquering evil. Arching over it is the inscription "ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS" (United States of Mexico).
Brilliant Uncirculated Condition
Your coin will arrive in Brilliant Uncirculated condition. This means that it lacks any wear and has lost a maximum of 5% of its original Mint luster.
