Description

Why make this Very Fine 30 1139-1339 Genoa Silver Denaro the next addition to your collection?

This Silver Denaro was issued by Genoa, Italy during a defining period in history. It was struck sometime between 1139 and 1339, which places its issue during the time of The Crusades. This Denaro is quite small, but the history that comes along with it is huge.

Crusades era design

The design on the obverse is full of symbols. The upper portion displays a cross. Some of the other symbols that can be seen here are more difficult to recognize.

As you may expect, the reverse design also includes a cross. Unlike the obverse design, it is a square cross. Since it is depicted inside a circle it’s also possible to interpret it as a sun cross.

Graded Very Fine 30 by NGC

To have this Silver Denaro from Genoa graded, authenticated, and encapsulated, it was sent to the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) to be examined by their team of experts. From their 70 point scale, it was given the grade of Very Fine 30. A fair portion of the original details are still visible, but the wear is obvious. Only coins that are determined authentic are assigned grades. Each coin will arrive inside of a story vault holder, contain a card telling its history.
