Why purchase a randomly dated 1854-1856 Small Head Indian Princess Gold $1 coin?
The U.S. Mint produced a series of gold dollar coinage from 1849 until 1889. During that forty year span, the series was released with three different designs. This randomly dated gold dollar is an example of the Type II design, which was minted only from 1854 until 1856. The Type II design, also known as "Small Head," features Lady Liberty as an Indian Princess on a 15 mm diameter bullion coin struck from 0.0484 Troy oz. of .900 fine gold.

Lady Liberty is portrayed as a young woman facing left on the obverse. She wears a beautifully detailed feathered headdress that is accented with the word "LIBERTY." The portrait is surrounded the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and a beaded border.
The inscription "1 DOLLAR," along with the date of issue, appears at the center of the reverse, encircled by an agriculturally themed wreath composed of corn, cotton, wheat and tobacco, which is tied with a broad ribbon at its base.
