Why buy this Silver Austrian 1300-1400 Hand Heller?

Collectors with an interest in Christian, monetary, numismatic, and/or medieval history are sure to appreciate this Austrian 1300-1400 Silver Hand Heller. The coin was frequently used in circulation. During the thirteen hundreds, the coin contained anywhere from .3 to .6g of silver, while later editions deteriorated in precious metal value as more copper was mixed in.

Groundbreaking Hand of God design

The obverse design was considered highly controversial for its time because it portrayed God without showing Him in full, something that was considered taboo. Instead, the image simply features His outstretched, open hand. It was also the first time that the Hand of God appeared on a coin that did not also include a devotional figure or monarch. Over time, the image became a symbol of blessings and luck for those who possessed it. Christian imagery is also included on the reverse, where a cross is featured.

Very Fine 30

Graders at the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) graded this piece Very Fine 30. That means that the details are nearly complete, but there is some moderate softness in areas of the design. Each one comes in a story vault.
