Obverse Design
Justin Kunz’s obverse design was sculpted by Michael Gaudioso. Liberty and a young girl harvest the fruits of their labor. Liberty holds an overflowing cornucopia, which represents the intellectual, physical, and spiritual rewards that are only possible when people are free. A house and silo stand in the distance, combining with an orchard to represent the hopes and values of Americans. “Happiness” is inscribed prominently in script as it appears on the Declaration of Independence next to Liberty. Her name, “LIBERTY,” is at the bottom, and the date, “2020,” is on the left. The two statutory mottoes, “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST,” are inscribed along the rim.
