Platinum Maple Leaf Coins

Since 1988 the Royal Canadian Mint has issued Platinum Maple Leaf bullion coins. Until 2001 these coins were produced in both 1 oz. and smaller, fractional sizes, and since 2009 they have only been made in the popular 1 oz. format. Made of .9995 fine platinum, these legal tender bullion coins carry the same iconic Canadian Maple Leaf design as their silver and gold counterparts and have a face value of $50.

Canadian Platinum Maple Leafs, along with American Platinum Eagles and platinum coins from Australia, are the world's leading platinum bullion coins, and they are tied with the Perth Mint's Platinum Koalas which also began in 1988, as the world's first platinum bullion coins. After almost thirty years of production, these coins have developed a global following and remain highly popular.

In 2012 these coins were the best-selling platinum bullion coin in the world. Some of the advantages of the Canadian coins is that they tend to be more readily available and sell for lower premiums than similar platinum bullion coins. They are also made to the highest quality standards.
