Kingdom of Macedon Silver Drachm of Alexander III - Heracles and Zeus 336-323 BC NGC VF
This Kingdom of Macedon – Alexander III Drachm bears the image of one of the most famous conquerors in all of recorded history, Alexander the Great. He grew his empire to a remarkable size of roughly 5.2 million square kilometers. This piece received certification from the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) as being in Very Fine (VF) condition, a grade given to ancient coins that is equivalent to 20-25 on the Sheldon Scale. That is an indication that three quarters of the original design remain. On the obverse is the head of Herakles. He faces to the right and dons a lion-skin headdress. On the reverse of the coin is the god Zeus, who is seated with his feet up on a stool. An eagle is perched on his right hand, which is extended, and he holds a scepter in his left. The coin measures 18mm in diameter and weighs 4 g.
