Why purchase this Silver Tetradrachm from the ancient Greek Kingdom of Thrace?

Alexander the Great's vast Macedonian Empire was divided after his death between his five most trusted generals, with Lysimachus inheriting the Kingdom of Thrace, where he ruled from 305-281 BC. When Lysimachus expanded his territory into Asia Minor, he acquired Babylon's Lampsakos Mint and began minting his own coinage.

Divine Image of Alexander

Lysimachus believed that continuing to strike the image of Alexander on his coinage would justify his claim to rule the territories he inherited. The obverse depicts Alexander, wearing the crown and ram-horns of Jupiter Ammon, the Roman equivalent to the Greek god Zeus.

The reverse features Athena, the Goddess of War, posed seated with her left arm resting on shield. Nike, the Winged Goddess of Victory, stands upon Athena's outstretched right hand placing the ruling crown onto the inscribed name of Lysimachus.

Ancient Silver Tetradrachm Graded Extremely Fine

This beautiful Silver Tetradrachm of Lysimachus was given the designation of Fine Style, indicating that the coin has exceptional visual design impact due to a remarkable strike, surface, or style, with the additional ancient grade certifications of 5/5 for strike quality and 4/5 for surface characteristics. The ancient coin grading division of the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation, NGC Ancients, determined this ancient coin to be in overall XF, Extremely Fine condition (Sheldon Scale 40). The coin will exhibit almost complete details, with high points worn flat.
