Why order this roll of 14 $10 Canada 2020 2 oz Silver The Kraken Creatures of the North?
Tales of the Kraken have captivated and frightened Canadian sailors for centuries. In 1878, a squid measuring 56 feet washed up on the shores of Newfoundland, providing physical evidence of this massive beast. Today, the legend stays alive in movies and stories. This first issue in the Royal Canadian Mint's Creatures of the North Series features the iconic creature. Each coin was struck from 2 oz of .9999 fine silver at the Royal Canadian Mint.
Striking Kraken Design
Like other Canadian coins, this one features Susanna Blunt's right-side portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. The monarch wears earrings and a tiara, but Blunt strikes a note of Canadian independence by showing her without a crown or a tiara. The monarch's name, "ELIZABETH II," and abbreviated title, "D.G. REGINA," are split to the left and right of the image. The date, "2020," is inscribed along the rim at the top, while the coin's face value, "10 DOLLARS," is included at the bottom.
On the reverse, the Kraken tears apart a ship that appears tiny by comparison. The beast appears to look directly into the eyes of the holder. In the upper left is a maple leaf privy with a micro-engraved date, "20," a security feature that makes counterfeiting extremely difficult. The coin's purity, "9999," is included near the bottom. A rim frame in which there are radial line bears two sets of inscriptions, the name of the coin's country, "CANADA," and its weight in English and French, "FINE SILVER 2 OZ ARGENT PUR."
