Why purchase this Silk Road Series KHUSRU II Drachm Silver?
King Khursu II was considered the last of the great Sasanian Kings. He had to flee to Mesopotamia early in his reign, but he regained his throne in Persia with the help of Maurice Tiberius, the Emperor of Byzantium. Following the murder of Maurice Tiberius, Khusru captured most of the Byzantine Empire. Khusru II's forces attempted but failed to capture Constantinople. Khusru II's son murdered him, sparking a civil war.
Striking Bust of Khusru II
Obverse: The obverse bears a right-facing bust of Khusru II. The image is similar to the busts of Khusru I on coins, but it has a vertical crescent on the head, as well as a six-pointed star above. Inscriptions that translate to "May the Glory increase" and "Khusru" are included on this face.
Reverse: The reverse image is a fire alter, known as an "atasdan." The design is flanked by two attendants, as well as a crescent and a star. Additional stars and crescents appear on the triple rim.
