Why add this Double Struck Judaea Prutah of Alexander Jannaeus to your ancient coin collection?

During the reign of Alexander Jannaeus, 103-76 BC, three distinct types of Bronze Prutah, or "Widow's Mite," were struck. Two designs of the coin have been documented, a Jewish-themed type depicting symbols of the Holy Temple with a Hebrew legend, and a design more Hellenistic (Greek) in style, featuring an anchor and legend which proclaims Jannaeus as King rather than High Priest. The third type combines the two designs, as the Jewish design is overstruck onto the Greek imagery. Historians are still perplexed as to the reason for this overstruck coin, since it has been determined to have been minted intentionally at the time of the coin's original production.

Overstruck symbolic imagery

The coin features the Jewish Holy Temple symbol of a cornucopia and legend declaring Jannaeus as High Priest struck over the Greek symbol of an anchor, which represented Jannaeus' fleet of ships.

Fine ancient coin

The Numismatic Guaranty Corporation's (NGC) Ancient Coin Division graded this Bronze Prutah of Alexander Jannaeus, struck 103-76 BC, to be Fine (F). Coins in this grade will have some remaining lettering and detail in deeply recessed areas. The highly circulated coin will have moderate to considerable wear. This historic artifact is presented with an official NGC grading label in a protective holder to preserve its condition, accompanied by a story card describing the coin's origin and historical significance.

The Double Struck Bronze Widow's Mite will be a prized addition to your ancient coin collection!
