Why should you purchase this ancient Bronze coin struck for Roman Emperor Philip II?

Philip II, also known as Philippus II, co-ruled the Roman Empire as Augustus with his father Philip I from A.D. 247-249, after serving as Caesar beginning in A.D. 244. As a province of the Empire, the Ionian Island of Samos struck coinage with Roman Imperial imagery. This AE22 (bronze, 22 mm diameter), was struck for Philip II as Caesar, as indicated by the continuous obverse legend around a small portrait.

Not only does history from this province of the Roman Empire come to your collection with the purchase of this coin, but also an important pedigree - that of Alexandre Caratheodory Pasha, Prince of Samos from 1885 to 1894. This collector from over a century ago collected numerous ancient Greek and Roman coins

Classic Imagery

The obverse features the bare-headed, draped, cuirassed bust of Emperor Philip II facing right, surrounded by a Greek legend declaring his name and title as Caesar, "M IOV FILIPPOC KAICAP".

Illustrated on the reverse ifs the image of a standing Amazon warrior, holding a wreath in her outstretched right hand, with a long palm frond in her left, accompanied by the inscription "CAMI?N".

Very Fine Ancient Bronze Coin

This Ionian Island of Samos provincial issue Bronze coin struck in honor of Roman Emperor Philip II received the grade of Very Fine (VF) from the ancient coin grading division of the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC). Comparable to a Sheldon Scale grade of 20-25, this coin will exhibit full, sharp lettering, with nearly complete image detail. The coin is enclosed in a protective holder, with NGC label authenticating its origins from the recently auctioned 630 piece collection of the late Alexandre Caratheodory Pasha, Prince of Samos from 1885-1894. Each coin will come housed in a story vault holder telling its story.

This AE22 of Philip II will be a treasured part of your ancient coin collection!
