Why purchase this 2 oz. silver Intaglio Mint Saint-Gaudens One Cent Tribute Round?
Following a visit to the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C., where President Theodore Roosevelt admired the beauty of ancient Greek coinage, he challenged renowned sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens with the task of re-designing U.S. coinage. Due to failing health, the sculptor was only able to complete the designs for $10 and $20 gold coins before his death in 1907. This round features Saint-Gaudens' design for a one cent coin, which was never minted.
- The round is a product of the Intaglio Mint.
- The round contains 2 Troy oz. of .999 fine silver.
- The round features a gorgeous Brilliant Uncirculated finish.
Magnificently Detailed Designs
Obverse: Lady Liberty is depicted as a young woman on the obverse, with her wavy hair gathered in an elegant knot behind a wreath of laurel. Thirteen six-pointed stars arc above, one to represent each of the original colonies, with the word "LIBERTY" inscribed below.
Reverse: The round's weight of "TWO TROY OUNCES" is centered on the reverse, surrounded by the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and a beautifully rendered laurel wreath. The base of the wreath is joined by a fasces, a bound bundle of arrows. The fasces is a symbol of magisterial power, law and governance, which dates back to the civilizations of ancient Rome.
