Star Wars is an American film saga centered, “in a galaxy far, far away.” In this franchise created by George Lucas, the Jedi represent good, while the Sith Order represents evil. Both sides use “the Force,” which is a metaphysical power that is the object of the Jedi and Sith orders. According to Obi-Wan Kenobi, the Force “surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.” The famous line, “may the Force be with you,” is used by almost every major character. The first film in the series, “Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope,” was released on May 25, 1977. This film became a worldwide phenomenon, and was later followed by two sequels, “The Empire Strikes Back” in 1980, and “Return of The Jedi” in 1983. In an absolutely brilliant move, the New Zealand Mint has released a series of stunning pure silver coins to coincide with the upcoming feature film,The Force Awakens. This two year program contains two distinct sets - – first being Star Wars Classic coins and the second being colorized coins from the new film. The featured coin of this article is the third coin in the second set, Rey, who lives on the desert, junkyard planet of Jakku. Rey was abandoned by her parents on Jakku at the age of five. Her upbringing has turned her into a self-sufficient scavenger. The obverse of these bright and colorized silver coins seem to come alive, as Rey is seen walking through the desert on the right side, and driving her vehicle on the left side. A large colorized design of Rey’s face appears in the background. The design includes the inscription, “STAR WARS,” and, “1 oz 999 Fine Silver,” at the bottom side of this coin. Additionally, the “Lucasfilm Ltd & TM” logo appears on the bottom right side of this design. The reverse of these coins bears the profile of Queen Elizabeth II, with the inscriptions, “2016,” “Niue,” and “Two Dollars.” The edge for each of these coins is serrated.
