Why add this 1963 Greek Silver Drachmai coin depicting five kings to your collection?

1963 marked the centennial anniversary of the rule of Greece by members of the Dano-German ducal family of the House of Gl├╝cksburg. This silver coin was issued by the Bank of Greece to pay tribute to the milestone, depicting portraits of the five kings who ruled from 1863-1963. This beautifully designed coin, having a face value of 30 Drachmai, was struck in Paris from 0.4832 Troy oz. of .835 fine silver with a diameter measuring 34 mm and a thickness of 2.4 mm. Final mintage of the single year issue coin is reported to be 3,000,000.

Distinctive Design by Greek Engraver V. Falireas

The obverse features the overlapping images of the five Greek kings, George I, Constantine I, Alexander I, George II and Paul I, each framed within an individual circle beside their inscribed name. The crowned Royal Coat of Arms appears in the background, with the anniversary dates "1863" and "1963" inscribed above. It should be noted that this is the first time that the image of Alexander was struck on Greek coinage.

Depicted on the reverse is a map of Greece, with the coin's denomination of "30 Drachmai" inscribed below. The Greek inscription curving above the topographical image translates as "Kingdom of Greece." The coin's edge is lettered with an inscription representing the Royal motto "The people's love, my strength."
