The Great Engravers Collection celebrates the work of its past designers. The second release of the series features the Three Graces design created by William Wyon in 1817. Although the iconic image was only struck as a crown pattern of about fifty pieces, the design served as the starting point for Wyon's career, which culminated in his appointment as the Mint's Chief Engraver, a position he held from 1828-1851.

Gorgeous Depiction of the Three Graces

Obverse: The Three Graces, the daughters of Zeus in Greek mythology, stand on the obverse before an arcade of Greek Doric columns at daybreak. The trio is dressed similarly in elegant gowns and sandals, with wreaths of laurel woven through their hair. The meander patterned border at the floor and ceiling resembles the graphics on the reverse. The modernization of Wyon's famed design is the work of Royal Mint Product Designer sculptor Daniel Thorne.

Reverse: Centered on the reverse is the inscription "1 OZ 999.9 FINE GOLD," upon a skillfully etched Greek art inspired meander patterned background. Above, "THE ROYAL MINT" is inscribed beside the Mint's distinctive heraldic shield and crown logo, with the bar's individualized serial number located below.
