My dad was a chemical engineer at the Standard Oil/Esso/Humble/Exxon refinery in Baton Rouge. He told me the marketing for the different brands of gas was baloney and that orders were filled by stations from wherever there was a supply. So you might be pumping gas from a Shell refinery at an Exxon station and vice versa.

    I believe that's mostly true.

Oil is oil and the refining process is the same from plant to plant.

I believe the real differences in the different brands of gasolines are the additives that are mixed in.

From what I've seen the tanker trucks fill up at tank farms and the additives are added right there at the filling stations depending. Different companies, different concoction of additives. Think "shell with techron".
