Why purchase this collection of twelve Cold War era banknotes?
From the end of World War II in 1945 to its collapse in 1991, the Soviet Union was the driving political and military force in Eastern Europe. The Cold War between what became known as the Eastern Bloc (the Soviet Union and its satellite states) and the Western Bloc (the United States, NATO nations and other allies) spanned more than four decades. This collection of twelve banknotes from the Soviet empire and other key players in the Cold War includes a Certificate of Authenticity from American Numismatic Association.
The battle for power continues
Fueled by the Truman Doctrine of 1947, a United States foreign policy directive pledging American support to nations under threat of Soviet expansion, the Cold War created geopolitical tension between the world's superpowers that created lasting global repercussions. The Cold War inspired several revolts against the Soviet empire from its satellite states, ultimately culminating in the Solidarity movement in Poland and the fall of the Berlin Wall. These successful campaigns for independence set off a series of revolutions to overthrow communist governments throughout Europe and Southeast Asia. The revolutions continued until the official dissolution of the Soviet Union in December 1991.
