Why does this brilliant uncirculated 1 oz. 2022 Canadian Platinum Maple Leaf coin deserve a place in your collection?
The Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) launched the Gold Maple Leaf series in 1979. In 1988, the gold coin was supplemented with coins struck from platinum and silver, featuring identical patriotic maple leaf imagery. The Platinum Maple Leaf has been minted exclusively in a one ounce weight since 2009. In 2023, Maple Leafs will feature what is being called a transitional obverse that honors the long reign of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The obverse will feature the familiar Susanna Blunt effigy of the Queen with the inclusion of the dates of her reign, "1952-2022," to the left of her profile. This obverse will be used until a new effigy of King Charles III is approved by Buckingham Palace. It remains to be seen when the new effigy of the King will appear on the series, but it is very likely that 2023 will be the last year the Queen appears on the Maple Leaf series.
- This 2023 Maple Leaf coin is struck from 1 Troy oz. of .9995 fine platinum.

- The coin is issued as legal tender of Canada, with a face value of fifty dollars.
- A tiny micro-engraved maple leaf security mark bearing the inscription "23" is located on the reverse.
- Obverse and reverse fields are patterned with an additional security feature consisting of a microscopically thin lined radial design.
Breathtaking Canadian Maple Leaf Imagery
Obverse: The obverse features the right facing effigy of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II designed by Canadian artist Susanna Blunt. In 2023, the obverse has been updated to include an inscription beside the late monarch commemorates her historic reign with the dates "1952" and 2022." Additional inscriptions include "ELIZABETH II," "50 DOLLARS" and "2023." As the winner of a RCM competition, Ms. Blunt was chosen as the artist to design the Queen's coinage portrait in 2003.
Reverse: The reverse features a symbol which is synonymous with the national identity of Canada, a single sugar maple leaf, with the innovative maple leaf security mark located to the right of the stem. Inscribed "CANADA," "FINE PLATINUM 1 OZ PLATINE PUR" and "9995." The iconic maple leaf design was created by the late Walter Ott (1920-2020), the RCM's Chief Engraver and Director of Art at the time of the Gold Maple Leaf series' introduction.
