Why purchase this beautiful Mint State Silver Denier struck for Bohemond III, 1149-1163?

Founded in 1098, the Principality of Antioch was one of the four short-lived feudal Crusader states created as a result of the First Crusade. Bohemond III officially ascended to the position of Prince of Antioch in 1163. Following the death of his father Prince Raymond, Bohemond's mother Constance ruled as regent from 1149-1163. The denier was a common coin carried by the Crusading knights, struck by multiple Mints within the principalities, usually bearing similar cross imagery. The Antioch denier of Bohemond measures approximately 17 mm in diameter, with a weight of about 0.9 gram.

Incredibly Detailed Crusader Style Imagery

The obverse features a stylized portrait of young Bohemond III, bare-headed and facing right, framed by a beaded circle and the inscription "BOAMVNDVS" (Bohemond).

On the reverse, the name of the Crusader state "ANTIOCHIA" surrounds the encircled depiction of a cross with flared arms, known as a cross pattee, the symbol worn by the Crusading armies.
