Why own this collection of eight genuine World War II-era banknotes?

During the second half of World War II, the Allied Powers printed and distributed special banknote currencies known as Allied Military Currency (AMC) to their troops deployed abroad. This collectible set from the Banknotes of History Genuine World Currency series contains eight Allied Military Currency Banknotes issued for use in five countries: Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Japan. The folio includes a Certificate of Authenticity for all eight banknotes from American Numismatic Association (ANA).

Currency for a post-World War II world

In an attempt to encourage currency stability in newly liberated or newly occupied countries during and shortly after the Second World War, Allied military leaders approved the issue of military versions of Axis nation currencies. The United States Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) designed six versions of Allied Military Currency: Austrian shillings, French francs, German marks, Italian lire and Japanese sen and yen. The banknotes were primarily printed by the BEP with additional help from other American printing companies and the Soviet Union to keep pace with demand.

This collection includes the following eight banknote denominations: AUSTRIA: 20 shillings (P-107) FRANCE: 2 francs (P-114) 5 francs (P-115) GERMANY: 1 mark (P-192) 5 marks (P-193) ITALY: 1 lira (M-10) JAPAN: 10 sen (P-63) 50 sen (P-65) The first notes believed to be placed into circulation were the Italian lire, used by Allied troops after landing in Sicily in 1943.

Show off your collection with its convenient folio design

This fascinating set makes an excellent display piece with a clear sleeve for each country that allows you to appreciate both the front and back of each banknote. The currency sleeves and the Certificate of Authenticity from American Numismatic Association are enclosed in a brown leatherette folio featuring the gold Banknotes of History Genuine World Currency logo on the cover.
