Why purchase this Ancient Roman Bronze Follis featuring the Sun God of Saint Constantine?

Constantine the Great was Emperor of the Roman Empire from A.D. 306-337. He is honored as a saint by Eastern Orthodox and Byzantine Catholics, recognized as the Empire's first Christian Emperor. Prior to the Empire's transition to Christianity, the Roman solar cult of Sol Invictus worshiped the pagan sun god Sol. Imagery of the Emperors including a radiate crown was meant to represent themselves as the personification of Sol on earth. This Follis of Constantine honoring the sun god Sol is struck from bronze, measuring 19.5-21 mm in diameter, and weighing 2.5-3.5 g.

Symbolic imagery of Constantine's Follis

The sun god Sol is depicted on the reverse, depicted standing, facing left, adorned with a radiate crown, and holding a globe, symbolic of victory and world rule. Inscribed "SOLI INVICTO COMITI," meaning "In honor of the unconquered sun god, the companion of the emperor."

The obverse features a portrait of Emperor Constantine, accompanied by his inscribed name and title.
