Why purchase this Cold Enamel 7-Piece Coin Set celebrating landmarks of New York City?
This stunning set of seven quarter dollar coins has been modified with a cold enamel process by a third party after its release from the U.S. Mint. Each coin represents a tribute to a highly recognizable New York City landmark. Cold enamel is a pigmented epoxy resin that is applied without the use of high temperatures, which results in the appearance of standard enamel. The finished piece is richly colored, durable and resistant to wear.
Seven Famous Sites in New York City
Obverse: The obverse of each coin depicts John Flanagan's 1932 portrait of George Washington, surrounded by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "QUARTER DOLLAR." Mr. Flanagan was a New York based architectural and medallic sculptor, who had spent five years as a studio assistant to Augustus Saint-Gaudens (designer of the 1907 Gold Double Eagle coin).
Reverse: The reverse design of each coin is focused on a different landmark of New York City. Locations include the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park, the Statue of Liberty, Rockefeller Center, and the Art Deco styled Chrysler and Empire State Buildings. Each image is encircled by an American flag themed border containing the inscription "NEW YORK" and the name of the landmark.
