Why order this 5-Pack of San Francisco Mint Type I 2021-(S) Emergency Production 1 oz American Silver Eagles?
In an effort to keep up with the collector demand for Silver Eagles in the face of production delays during the COVID-19 pandemic, the United States Mint took the extraordinary step of striking supplemental bullion coins at the San Francisco Mint. This supplemental run of bullion coins at the San Francisco Mint also coincides with both the 35th anniversary of the coin and one of the final times that the original heraldic eagle reverse design will appear on a bullion Silver Eagle. The reverse of the beloved series is set to transition to a brand-new reverse design for the first time its history in mid-2021.
Featuring John Mercanti's Reverse Design for the Final Time
Obverse: On the obverse is the famous Walking Liberty design of Adolph Weinman. Liberty is draped in the American flag as the carries laurel and oak branches against a backdrop of the rising sun. The image is joined by the inscriptions "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "2021." Adolph Weinman designed two of the most important coins of the early 20th century, the Mercury Dime and the Walking Liberty Half Dollar. He also designed numerous sculptures that are still on display in cities across America.
Reverse; For the last time, John Mercanti's adaptation of the Great Seal of the United States serves as the reverse design. An eagle protects a union shield below thirteen stars, which represent the original states. Inscribed on the rim are the name of the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the coin's metal content, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and the coin's face value, "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti spent over thirty-five years with the US Mint, including time as its Chief Engraver. He has designed more medals and coins than any other American in history.
