Powerful Patriotic Designs by Adolph Weinman and John Mercanti
Obverse: The obverse design comes from Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty half dollar. The morning sun emerges from beyond the horizon as Liberty carries laurel and oak branches while draped in the American flag. The word "LIBERTY" arches over the image, while the date, "2020," and national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," are also inscribed on this face. Adolph Weinman was a prominent sculptor who made important contributions to America's early 20th century numismatic renaissance. His most famous contributions were the Mercury dime and the Walking Liberty half dollar.
Reverse: The Great Seal of the United States was John Mercanti's inspiration for his reverse design. An eagle protects a union shield under thirteen stars. Three rim inscriptions encircle the design. They read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti was the twelfth Chief Engraver of the US Mint. His time in that post was just a portion of his three-plus decades with the US Mint, during which time he became the most prolific designer of coins and medals in its history.
