Why purchase this 5-Pack of Emergency Production 2020-(S) San Francisco Mint American 1 oz Silver Eagles?
The American Silver Eagle is the world's favorite bullion coin, but the United States Mint's production of it was hampered by COVID-19 in 2020. To keep up with demand and to mitigate production slow-downs, the Mint authorized a production run of bullion Silver Eagles to be struck at the San Francisco Mint. Each of the coins in this set is part of that historic run, which makes them perfect mementos from a historic year.
Striking Designs by John Mercanti and Adolph Weinman
Obverse: The obverse design comes from Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty half dollar. Liberty dons a Phrygian cap and is draped in the American flag as she carries laurel and oak branches while the sun rises to the left. Inscriptions on the obverse include her name, "LIBERTY," the date, "2020," and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST." Adolph Weinman is best known for two coins that he designed, the Mercury dime and the Walking Liberty half dollar. He also designed many sculptures, some of which are still on display in cities across America.
Reverse: John Mercanti's reverse design was created specifically for this series. Modelled off of the Great Seal of the United States, it consists of thirteen stars, which represent the original states, and an eagle protecting a union shield. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" arches over the image, while inscriptions on the bottom part of the rim read, "1 OZ. FINE SILVER" and "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti is the most prolific designer of coins and medals in American history. He spent nearly 40 years with the US Mint, part of which he spent as its Chief Engraver.

Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) provided the grading information for these coins on exclusive labels, which bear the image of Mercanti's heraldic eagle. NGC graded each piece in this set Mint State 69. That grade indicates that a coin appears perfect to the naked eye. NGC also certified the coins First Releases, meaning that they were submitted for grading no more than 30 days after their initial release from the mint, and awarded them the grading service's Emergency Production pedigree. The coins have been set in black core holders.
