Stunning Designs by Adolph Weinman and John Mercanti
Obverse: The obverse design comes from Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty half dollar. Draped in the American flag, Liberty bears laurel and oak branches, symbols of civilian and military honors, as she strides confidently toward the left side of this face, where the morning sun emerges from beyond the horizon. "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "2020" are all inscribed on this face. Adolph Weinman contributed two of the best known coins in American history, the Mercury dime and the Walking Liberty half dollar, to America's numismatic renaissance of the early 20th century. He also created numerous sculptures, many of which remain on display in cities throughout the United States.
Reverse: John Mercanti used the Great Seal of the United States as the inspiration for his reverse design, which he created specifically for this series. An eagle guards a union shield while holding arrows and an olive branch under thirteen stars. Around the rim are three inscriptions, which read, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti is a lion of American numismatics. Over the course of nearly four decades with the US Mint, including time as its Chief Engraver, he designed more coins and medals than anyone else in the institution's rich history.
