Why Buy This MS70 First Day of Issue 2022 American Silver Eagle 5 Piece Set with Black Core Slabs and Labels Signed by Gaudioso, Damstra, Ryder, Mercanti, and Jones?
The American Silver Eagle is a top choice of collectors around the world. This series has been running since 1986 and the first major design change to these coins was made in mid-2021 with the debut of the Type 2 reverse. The set shown here includes five 2022 American Silver Eagles.
Classic Liberty and Type 2 Bald Eagle
Obverse: This side of each 2022 Silver Eagle shows a classic Liberty design that made its first appearance on a U.S. coin in 1916. Adolph A. Weinman created this design, it's known as Walking Liberty. The date can be found near the bottom of this side. Type 2 Silver Eagles also notably include Weinman's artist initials, "AW," on the obverse.
Reverse: The Eagle Landing design is on this side. The reverse was designed by Emily Damstra and engraved by Michael Gaudioso. This version of the reverse replaced the heraldic bald eagle design by John Mercanti that was originally used for the series in mid-2021. This design shows an impressively detailed bald eagle as it prepares to land with an oak branch in its talons.
NGC and PCGS MS70 First Day of Issue with Black Core Holders and Labels Signed by Gaudioso, Damstra, Ryder, Mercanti, and Jones
All five coins in this set have been certified, each was assigned the grade of Mint State 70 (MS 70) and the First Day of Issue (FDI) designation. These coins are perfect and they were submitted on their release day. Each one is sealed in a black core slab and has a label that has been signed. One of these 2022 Silver Eagles was graded by Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) and its label was signed by Emily Damstra, designer of the Type 2 reverse. The other four were certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC). One was signed by John Mercanti, retired Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint and creator of the Type 1 reverse. One was signed by Elizabeth Jones, the first woman to serve as Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint. The third was signed by Michael Gaudioso, the engraver of the Type 2 reverse. The fourth was signed by David J. Ryder, the recently retired Director of the U.S. Mint, who filled that role from both 1992-1993 and again from 2018-2021, overseeing this major design transition.
