Why order this 5-Coin 2021 Silver American Eagle T1 Last Day - T2 First Day Of Production Set?

The U.S. Mint made the first major changes to the Silver Eagle in its history in mid-2021 when it introduced the Type 2 version of the coin. The new version has a new reverse design, as well as the artist mark of Adolph Weinman on the obverse and a new security feature on the rim. This set consists of two Type 1 Silver Eagles from the last day of production of the type and three Type 2 Silver Eagles from the first day of production. Just 19,000 of the first 200,000 2021 Type 2 Silver Eagles were eligible to be certified First Day of Production, even less were certified Mint State 70.

  • Each coin in this set was struck from 1 oz of .999 fine silver.
  • Each piece is $1 legal tender in the United States.
  • The Silver Eagle is one of the world's most popular bullion series.
  • The U.S. Mint transitioned from the Type 1 Silver Eagle to the Type 2 Silver Eagle in mid-2021.
  • This set consists of two Type 1 coins from the last day of production and three Type 2 coins from the first day of production.
  • Adolph Weinman's artist mark and a security feature, an interrupted reeded edge, were added to the Type 2 version of the coin.
  • Of the first 200,000 Type 2 Silver Eagles to be produced in 2021, just 19,000 were eligible to be certified First Day of Production.
  • Either Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) or Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) made the Last Day/First Day certifications.
  • All five coins are graded Mint State 70.
  • Each piece has been set in a black core holder.
  • Type 1 labels were hand signed by John Mercanti and David Ryder.
  • Michael Gaudioso, Emily Damstra, and David Ryder signed the Type 2 labels.

Powerful Eagle Landing Design by Emily Damstra

Obverse: The obverse of all coins in this set bears Adolph Weinman's Walking Liberty design. The early morning sun begins to rise as Liberty carries laurel and oak branches while draped in the American flag. Inscriptions on this face read, "IN GOD WE TRUST," "LIBERTY," and "2021." Adolph Weinman was an Irish immigrant to America. He made several numismatic contributions, including the designs for both faces of the Walking Liberty Half Dollar and the Mercury Dime.

Type 1 Reverse: John Mercanti adapted the Great Seal of the United States for the Type 1 reverse. Thirteen stars are arranged above the head of an eagle, which protects a union shield. Along the rim are the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR." John Mercanti was the Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint for part of his nearly four decades with the institution. He is the most prolific designer of coins and medals in American history.

Type 2 Reverse: Renata Gordon sculpted Emily Damstra's new reverse design. An eagle carries an oak branch in its talons as it prepares to land with its wings spread. The rim inscriptions are the same as those on the Type 1, but they have been rearranged. Emily Damstra has her M.F.A. from the University of Michigan. She has been contributing designs to American coins since 2017.

Flawless NGC / PCGS MS70 with Black Core Holders Ryder/Mercanti/Gaudioso/Damstra Signed Labels

Either Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) or Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) certified these coins Last Day of Production (2 x Type 1) and First Day of Production (3 x Type 2). All of the coins in this set except for the Type-2 First Day of Production Silver Eagle featuring the Emily Damstra Label, which was graded and encapsulated by PCGS, were certified and encapsulated by NGC. The coins were also graded Mint State 70, which means that they appear perfect even under 5x magnification. The labels have been hand signed by John Mercanti (Type 1), David Ryder (Type 1), Michael Gaudioso (Type 2), Emily Damstra (Type 2), and David Ryder (Type 2). Each coin comes set in a black core holder. Mercanti was the 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint and the designer of the Type-1 reverse design, while David Ryder was the Director of the Mint from 1992 to 1993 and then again from 2018 to 2021 when he over saw this major transition in the American Silver Eagle series. Emily Damstra designed the Type-2 reverse, and Michael Gaudioso engraved it.
