Why Purchase This MS70 First Day of Issue 2022 American Silver Eagle 4 Piece Set with Black Core Slabs and Labels Signed by Gaudioso, Damstra, Ryder, and Mercanti?
In 1986 the U.S. Mint struck the very first American Silver Eagle coins. These would quickly become hugely popular with collectors and stackers around the world. The 35th anniversary of the series in 2021 brought the first major design change, the Type 2 reverse which replaced the Type 1 part way through the year. The set offered here includes four 2022 American Silver Eagles. 2022 marks the second year of issue of the Type 2 Silver Eagle design. In addition to a new reverse design, Type 2 Silver Eagles feature the inclusion of artist Adolph Weinman's initials, "AW," on the obverse and a interrupted reeded edge security feature to help prevent counterfeiting.
Impressively Detailed Liberty and Bald Eagle Designs
Obverse: The date is displayed on the obverse of each coin. This side shows the Walking Liberty design which was originally created by Adolph A. Weinman. Liberty is at the center of the design carrying a bundle of oak and laurel branches while the stars and stripes wave around her.
Reverse: The recently introduced Type 2 reverse is also known as the Eagle Landing design. The reverse was designed by Emily Damstra and engraved by Michael Gaudioso. This design replaced the heraldic bald eagle reverse, which was the work of retired Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint John Mercanti.
NGC and PCGS MS70 First Day of Issue with Black Core Holders and Labels Signed by Gaudioso, Damstra, Ryder, and Mercanti
Each of the four coins in this set received the grade of Mint State 70 (MS 70) and the First Day of Issue (FDI) designation. These coins are completely flawless. Each one is protected by an appealing black core slab and has a certification label that was signed by a different numismatic figure. One of the coins in this set was certified by Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) and its label was signed by Emily Damstra, the designer of the Type 2 reverse. The other three were certified by Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC). One has a label that was signed by John Mercanti, retired Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint and creator of the original reverse design for the Silver Eagle. Another was signed by Michael Gaudioso, the engraver of the Type 2 reverse. The third was signed by David J. Ryder, who served as Director of the U.S. Mint twice including from 2018 through 2021 when he oversaw this major design transition in the series.
