Why Choose This EF45 323-319 BC Alexander the Great AR Drachm?

This Alexander the Great drachm was minted between 323 and 319 BC, so it is well over 2,000 years old. It was struck at the Colophon Mint, which is known to have produced a large number of the coins used during this period. The standard denomination of the period, these coins were typically produced to a standard of 4.2g and were used to pay alexander’s army. On the obverse, this coin displays Heracles. He is shown facing the right and is pictured wearing a lion’s skin. On the reverse, Zeus can be seen sitting on a throne. He has one arm extended and an eagle is perched on it.

This 323-319 BC Alexander the Great drachm was submitted to Independent Coin Graders for grading and encapsulation. After it was found to be authentic, the grading process began. This coin was given the grade of EF45, or Extra Fine 45. This puts it just below the Almost Uncirculated range, which is impressive for a coin from this period!
