Gorgeous Type-2 Silver Eagle Design
Obverse: The obverse features a personification of liberty as a young woman enveloped in an American flag. Lady Liberty is illustrated walking towards the rising sun carrying a bundle of oak and laurel branches. Inscribed "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "2021." This patriotic design first appeared on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar coin over a century ago, in 1916. The beautiful graphic has been struck upon the Silver Eagle since the introduction of the series. New to the Type-2 release is the inclusion of the "AW" monogram, giving credit to acclaimed early 20th century sculptor Adolph A. Weinman for the time-honored image.
Reverse: An eagle is depicted on the reverse, grasping an oak branch while lifting its wings to slow its descent. The eagle is surrounded by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," "ONE DOLLAR" and the West Point Mint mark "W." The design was crafted by U.S. Mint Artistic Infusion Program artist and award-winning illustrator Emily Damstra. Ms. Damstra's dramatic eagle landing image was sculpted by medallic artist Michael Gaudioso, who has who has been a member of the U.S. Mint's team of sculptor/engravers since 2009.
Flawless Burnished Silver Eagle Set
Each Burnished Type-2 2021-W American Silver Eagle coin in this 3-piece set was submitted to a reputable independent third party grading service for review and earned the coveted First Day of Issue designation. Featuring a perfectly sharp strikes and pristine surfaces, each coin was deemed worthy of a superior grade. Two coins were submitted to the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NGC) for review, each coin earning the grade of Mint State 70. The coins are sonically sealed in individual NGC black core holders, one with a certification label signed by Type-2 reverse sculptor Michael Gaudioso and the other with its label signed by John Mercanti, 12th U.S. Mint Chief Engraver and designer of the classic Silver Eagle Type-1 heraldic eagle image. The final coin, which received the grade of Specimen 70 from the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS), is enclosed in a similar black core holder accompanied by a PCGS certification label adorned with the signature of Emily Damstra, the Type-2 reverse designer.
